A Story Circle LifeWriting Retreat
with author, writer, facilitator Jeanne Guy
“Coming to Terms with Your Story: Clearing a Path to Your Writing Life”
May 5-7, 2017
Fredericksburg Inn & Suites
Registration closes on April 5, 2017
We love story. Hearing stories, telling stories, living stories. We are woven together with each other through story.
What we may overlook is the most important story: the story we tell ourselves. Our inner narrator(s) can wreak havoc with our lives, affecting how we treat ourselves and how we interact with others.
The theme of this year’s retreat will be exploring and reframing the story you’ve been telling yourself. “You’ll spend time getting to know yourself, look at what’s not working, or what’s holding you back, and make a shift. It’s not about a shift in circumstances; it’s about a shift in consciousness and attitude, through self-compassion, self-honesty and accountability,” says Jeanne Guy, our facilitator.
Jeanne Guy is a reflective-writing coach, author and seasoned workshop teacher known for her irreverent wit and entertaining style.
The retreat will focus on Jeanne’s Re-Story Reflective Writing Process™ which gives you a method for listening, sharing and reimagining/reframing your current life as a writer. Through this insightful self-care process, it is possible to see your life with more clarity and make inroads into embracing your full potential as a writer, regardless of what type of writing you do.
In November 2015, Jeanne and co-author Dave Rackley released their book Seeing Me—a guide for reframing the way you see yourself through reflective writing. This book is a journey of awakening, calling each of us to look at our lives through a new lens. Using the wisdom of everyday experience and the metaphors of photography, it offers you a way to explore your perceptions and misperceptions—all to reframe the way you see yourself.
How does this help writers? The better you know yourself, the more authentic you can be. The more authentic, the more love you have for yourself. The more love you have for yourself, the more courage you have to be who you are. The more courage you have, the more freedom you have to write.
This weekend promises to be an engaging retreat where Jeanne will create a safe space for you to explore your life and experience personal growth through story to help move you forward with your writing.
You are invited to join an amazing group of women for Story Circle Network’s LifeLines Retreat, May 5-7, 2017, for self-care and self-discovery through writing, sharing, encouragement, clarity, possibilities, camaraderie, tears, laughter, hope and FUN. Shopping is optional!
Joyce Boatright said, “Imagine May in Texas. You feel the energy of Earth Mother bringing new life into the sunlight and coloring the landscape with vibrant wildflowers. Your own creative desire to give birth stirs. Shall it be a memoir, a novel, an essay, a slim volume of poetry? Whatever the Muse is calling you to write, Texas is the place to be next May. Make plans to join Jeanne and reframe the way you see yourself as a writer. Prepare to come away refreshed and renewed.”
About the Retreat
Mark your calendar for the first weekend in May, bring a writing buddy, and join us in the beautiful Texas Hill Country for SCN’s popular women’s weekend writing retreat. (But do it now, because we have only 40 spaces and they’ll soon be gone.)
The event will take place in Fredericksburg TX, dubbed the heart of the Hill Country. The town is less than 80 minutes from Austin and San Antonio, so if you live out-of-state, you can fly into either city and rent a car. May is Wild Flower Month in Texas, so you’re sure to enjoy the drive.
Rich with the culture of German pioneers who settled the area over 160 years ago, Fredericksburg boasts spectacular art galleries, boutiques, antiques, award-winning Texas wineries, and acres of wildflowers.
