The egret like me, waits for the morning light of day to burn off the fog. Quiet is the norm at these times in the swamp. My kayak barely makes a ripple as I move through the still morning air. The water is warm, but the mist tells the story of the impending fall temperatures in the basin. That stillness breathes life into the swamp, and all troubles seem very far away.

I love this time of day, the gators are quiet, even the locals are not generally on the water. It seems that the world has come to a stop and everyone takes a deep breath. The Egret is caught in a quiet repose, almost oblivious to my presence.
