Vitalia Tours’ small-group escorted tours are a collection of exclusive out-of-the ordinary excursions and experiences designed for clients that are looking for something a little more authentic and unique.

Our ‘Watercolor Workshop in Tuscany’ tour this fall is an extraordinarily exceptional combination of activities, food & wine events, excursions and painting workshops that will give you an in-depth exposure to the culture of the Tuscany region. During this unique Tuscan adventure, we’ll immerse ourselves in an exploration of the customs and traditions of several important areas within the region.

Tuscany is quintessential Italy and an artist’s dreamscape – The ideal landscape to capture through drawing and painting. Amazing scenery is everywhere: Rolling hills dotted with cypress trees, patchwork quilts of fields and vineyards, iridescent green olive groves, all interspersed with winding roads and postcard-perfect medieval hilltop towns.

Additionally, fall in Italy is a glorious time, almost magical, especially in Tuscany; the air is crisp and cool, there are fewer crowds, and the food takes on richer flavors. Throughout the countryside, the autumn colors are brilliant and at their peak: the leaves of trees and vines provide a dazzling display of warm colors from plums and purples, to rich reds, deep gold, and shades of brown. Mother Nature’s palette, the astonishing landscape, the exquisite changing lights and shadows, the many subtle details seen in the alleys, nooks, and crannies of small villages, and the architecture are all sources of inspiration.

And let’s not forget, Tuscany is a region of incredible flavors and autumn brings with it the harvest season, so your adventure will be as much a culinary tour (complete with a Tuscan cooking class) as it is a watercolor painting tour. We’ll be visiting wineries, farms and artisanal food purveyors learning all about the authentic Tuscan culinary traditions and discovering their heritage in the Italian kitchen.

We’ll explore the region of Tuscany with various daily excursions, taking us through hilltop towns, quaint villages, and the picturesque countryside, where you will experience some of the most important aspects of the Italian lifestyle: La Dolce Vita – the Sweet Life. We’ll visit the magnificent renaissance city of Florence, the UNESCO World Heritage town of Pienza, charming Cortona, and medieval places like Arezzo and Montepulciano, as well as some wonderful hidden Tuscan gems. During these outings, painters can either sketch or paint at each location, join in on the group activity or have the option to remain at the studio and work.

This tour is designed for painters and non-painters alike, as well as solo travelers, as it offers a selection of handpicked activities, unique excursions, and special culinary events that offers the most genuine Italian experience for our guests. During the 4 half-days of workshop instruction, non-painters will have the opportunity to either relax at our accommodation or to join an activity. All guests will have the opportunity to meet with wine makers, farmers and producers, visit local artisans, and have plenty of “hands on” activities to not just see this beautiful region, but to gain insider knowledge. We want you to “experience” Italy and to create special and lasting memories.

This watercolor workshop is ideal for beginners and as well as experts, as instructor Dodie Davis presents a relaxed itinerary that allows for a great deal of experimentation and play at all levels. In addition to the half-day workshops, plein-air painting opportunities and studio time will be available for those who wish to take advantage of it. Your instructor Dodie Davis will also offer valuable tips during our plein-air day trips. We guarantee you will be inspired by the amazing scenery and landscape – whether you are painting for the first time or are more experienced.

Our accommodations are in an agriturismo villa (authentic Tuscan farmhouse) situated in the center of Tuscany, very near the town of Cortona, made famous by Frances Mayes in her book, “Under the Tuscan Sun” and movie by the same name. There is a large studio for painting as well as wonderful grounds and gardens for the opportunity to paint outdoors. There is also a large pool for those who wish to relax with a leisurely swim after a day of painting or exploring.

This small group tour consist of no more than 14 guests with all guided tours, excursions, and activities completely organized and included, as well as all transfers, transportation, accommodations, and most meals throughout the trip.

Come join us if you have an interest in drawing, painting, photography, or just want a truly authentic escape to Tuscany. Let yourself be seduced by the amazing scenery, the colors, the exquisite light, and the charm of autumn in Tuscany.

This is more than just a watercolor painting workshop; this will be a unique and authentic cultural adventure in the beautiful Italian countryside.
