Dimitra Colomvakou / MOSAIC ART GREECE

Dimitra Colomvakou is a self taught artist originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is currently living in Xirokambi, Sparta, Laconia, Greece. Dimitra began her career and love of mosaic art in her home where she created her first works of mosaic art. Starting in 2007 Dimitra started exhibiting her work in various cities in Greece starting:

•2007 with an exhibition of Folk Art held by the Perfecture of Laconia at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Athens

•2008 up to present . An annual art exhibition in conjunction with the Festival of Taygetos organized by Xirokambi Cultural Society ., Xirokambi, Laconia

•2010 “The Ancient Mosaic Meets Contemporary Mosaic – 12th International AIMC Congress of Contemporary Mosaic, Athens, Greece. Organized by the Cultural Organization of Athens Municipality & the International Union of Modern Mosaics AIMC – Associazione Internazionale Mosaicisti Contemporanei

•May 2014: Paleologos Mystras 2014 - Reproduction of Byzantine games - Mosaics for children of primary organizers - 5th Byzantine Antiquities, Municipality of Mystras and Legal Entity for Culture & Environment

•December 2014 The Local On Exhibition of local artists held in an old industrial building in the centre of Sparta Greece. Three days, 38 exhibitors and many dreamers exhibit their original hand crafted art. The Local On exhibition is organized by the group of “Activate now”.

Dimitra Colomvakou creates her own original fine mosaic art designs and will take commissions on request.

Future plans are to continue creating, exhibiting and selling her original works of fine mosaic art and to continue teaching mosaics to those interested in keeping an old ancient art form alive.....

This mosaic workshop caters to beginners  and is held in a relaxed atmosphere in my garden/studio courtyard in a small quaint village called Xirokambi 15 minutes south of Sparta.  This workshop is available during the months of May and June 2017. No previous experience is necessary.  In just 3 hours, the participant will acquire knowledge of the history of mosaics and learn the basic techniques of making a mosaics and take their mosaic art home to enjoy.

The workshops are held upon request of date and time.
