The Rocking Chair

Ken Burton

August 3-7

Babies love ’em, Porches need ’em. And there’s nothing better in front of a crackling fireplace. Yup, the Ladder Back Rocker is one of those chairs that practically begs you to sit for a spell. In this hands-on workshop, Master Craftsman Ken Burton will guide you through the process of building his take on this iconic piece of furniture. Topics include drilling angled holes, shaping curved pieces, mortise and tenon joinery, seat weaving, and more. Expect to gain some valuable woodworking experience, a lot of shop-tested advice, with a few bad jokes thrown in for good measure. Advanced Beginner to Intermediate

Ken Burton has been working with wood professionally since 1984. He is spectacularly over-educated for a woodworker, holding an Associate of Arts degree from Bucks County Community College in Fine Woodworking, a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Woodworking and Furniture Design from the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Ken’s business, Windy Ridge Woodworks is a multifaceted endeavor reflecting his wide range of interests in various craft media. At the heart of the operation is the design and construction of studio furniture and custom cabinetry. This is coupled with the teaching of woodworking workshops, writing of woodworking books and articles, and making a wide variety of other stuff. www.wrwoodworks.com
