The Workshop: The Art of Photographic Storytelling in Cuba
Award winning portrait and former Life Magazine Documentary photographer, Deborah Kalas with lead you on a six day photographic journey in Cuba. This workshop encourages participants to think in terms of creating a narrative with a set of photographs helping to find their own personal vision and photographic language. Instruction will be given to assist with capturing the “decisive moments” in daily life to create authentic heartfelt photographs. Each day will start with an inspirational educational meeting to give focus to the day’s activities. After lunch will be time to upload images to your computer and learn about editing your images. Deborah will also meet with each student throughout the week and review their images and answer questions. The end goal for this workshop is to have 20 photographs that uniquely tell the story of your experience of Cuba. There will be opportunities to meet local photographers for engaging and fun dialog giving you an opportunity to connect on a deeper level with the artists of Cuba.
Havana will be our main focus during your six days on the island with a day trip to the country side of Vinales, home of the largest concentration of Tobacco growers, a major economic export for Cuba along with some of the worlds best cigars!
